Photobiomodulation / Laser Therapy in Geelong
Photobiomodulation / low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a gentle, safe, pain-free and non-invasive therapy.
It involves shining an infrared and near infrared light onto targeted areas of the body, which helps stimulate, protect, repair and energise the body on a cellular level. Photobiomodulation ultimately assists the body’s ability to reduce pain and inflammation, increase the body’s range of motion and accelerate the body’s ability to heal itself.

Did you know that laser therapy can also improve mental health?
What can I expect from photobiomodulation/ laser therapy therapy?
A session of laser therapy / photobiomodulation treatment is quick and painless. Initial consultations are usually 40 minutes long. However, standard consultations usually take no longer than 30 minutes. It’s possible for some people to experience immediate relief from their pain conditions or mental health concerns, however it usually takes multiple sessions for successful treatment, depending on the complexity of the concern.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does laser therapy / photobiomodulation work? (The science behind the magic!)
Laser therapy facilitates photons (packets of light energy) in near-infrared (visible) and infrared (invisible) light to be absorbed by the body. The photons enter the cell’s mitochondria and are absorbed by chromophores, including cytochrome-c oxidase (CCO). This then activates an increase in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which leads to healing and tissue repair, improved blood circulation, cellular function and cellular network communication.
Is it safe?
Yes! And we take safety seriously. Create Balance Laser Therapy uses a Class 3B laser. It is sometimes referred to as a "cold laser" due to the fact that it is non-thermal. It is not considered a burn hazard. Our staff are fully trained in the safe use of the laser equipment. They ensure that the lasers are not directed towards people's eyes and protective eyewear is used for additional safety measures.
How often will I need treatment?
Every client's treatment protocol will be unique, based on their condition and the severity of their pain or discomfort. However, for most cases we usually recommend that clients receive treatment 1-2 times per week. Acute (short term) conditions can be treated up to 3 times in the first week and begin to taper off as the body starts healing. More chronic (long term) problems respond better when treatments are received once per week.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the nature of your issue. For acute conditions, 3-6 treatments may be sufficient. Conditions that are chronic may require more sessions. As a guide, most conditions would require 6 or more sessions but feel free to give us a call to discuss your individual circumstances.
When will I start to feel better?
Many clients may notice an improvement to their condition straight away (usually as a reduction of pain) but other clients may require multiple treatments before they start to notice a difference to their condition. Each treatment is cumulative and sometimes the tangible results are not felt until the third or fourth sessions. However, usually by the fourth session there are noticeable improvements in pain and movement.
Does it hurt? What does a treatment feel like?
Laser therapy is a safe and painless process. People usually report feeling a tingling sensation or nothing at all. Even though most clients experience no sensations when the laser is in use, it is important to note that the laser is actually working at a deep level. The sensation felt or the lack of sensation felt is not an indication of the therapy working more or less.
Are there any side effects or associated risks?
In all the research conducted, there have been no significant risks reported. Some people may report mild tenderness on the day of treatment, or the day after, which is actually a sign that the body has started the healing process.
How long does each treatment take?
The typical treatment with Create Balance Laser Therapy goes for 30- 40 minutes.

This allows clients to engage in laser therapy at a reduced cost but also facilitates clients to remain committed to their therapeutic goals.
