Our mind will naturally analyse the past with a microscope. This can form a distorted perspective of what may have actually happened. The more we analyse the past, the more we attach emotions to these memories. Reflecting on the past can give tremendous personal growth but spending too much time there can get us stuck, without ever really moving on. Part of the work I do with clients is giving these old memories a voice and a chance to release the energy attached to them.
Usually once people have had the chance to express that unresolved pain, there will be a level of acceptance and letting go, which frees people from the confusion of analysing the past.
